Payment Card Newsflash #013
Dear Credit Card Merchants:
We received the following notification from our payment card processor, Elavon, Inc. for your information:
“Windows XP SP3 Support Ends April 8, 2014
The Elavon PCI group has advised us that Windows XP will no longer be supported by Microsoft next year, and this may impact a merchant’s PCI DSS compliance.
While it is technically possible to maintain an end of life operating system, the cost to keep up with vulnerability management is quite high. It is therefore, more advisable to upgrade to the latest supported Windows software.
Non-PCI DSS compliance may result if Windows XP continues to be used, e.g. through failed ASV or internal scans.”
According to UF’s Office of Information Security and Compliance we will be fine using Windows 7.
